Melbourne Has a Weather Problem.
We Have the Answer.

Sunny at 9am. A cold front by noon. Scorching by 3pm. Rain by dinner. Locals call it four seasons in one day — and it's not an exaggeration. For homeowners who want to genuinely use their outdoor space year-round, a fixed pergola or shade sail simply doesn't cut it.

A louvred pergola with motorised blades gives you complete control — open for sun, angled for shade, closed in 10 seconds when the rain arrives. It's not just a structure. It's an outdoor room that works with Melbourne's weather instead of surrendering to it.

☀️

Hot Summer Days

Angle the louvres to filter light and keep the space cool — or open fully for natural ventilation.

🌧️

Sudden Downpours

Close the louvres in 10 seconds. Rain channels silently through the frame and exits through the posts.

🌙

Cool Winter Evenings

Close the louvres, activate the infrared heater, slide the glass walls across. You're warm and sheltered.

🍃

Perfect Autumn Days

Open the louvres completely. Invite the light and breeze in. Sit at the table and stay there all afternoon.

What Is a Louvred Pergola?

An aluminium-framed outdoor structure with adjustable roof blades that rotate to control sun, shade, ventilation and rain — giving you a genuine all-weather outdoor room.

🔆

Control Light & Shade

Tilt the louvres to your preferred angle throughout the day — full sun, filtered shade, or complete cover. Change it in seconds.

🌧️

Weatherproof When Closed

Louvres close to form a sealed roof. Integrated drainage channels in the frame carry water silently away through the posts — no gutters, no dripping.

🌬️

Natural Ventilation

Open louvres allow a natural cross-breeze to flow through — keeping the space comfortable on warm Melbourne evenings without ceiling fans or air conditioning.

📱

Remote & App Control

Motorised systems close at the touch of a button — remote control, wall switch or smartphone app. Optional rain sensor closes the louvres automatically when moisture is detected.

🔥

Integrated Heating

The Pergolux infrared heater clips into the gutter rail via SnapFIT™ — no drilling, no exposed cables. Weatherproof year-round. Extends Melbourne evenings well into winter.

🪟

Glass Wall Screens

Full-height framed sliding glass panels enclose the sides of your pergola — open on fine days, closed in seconds when wind or rain picks up. The final step to a fully enclosed outdoor room.

The pergola structure gives you weather control. The right accessories give you a space you'll use every single day — winter included.

Pergolux infrared heater Melbourne

Infrared Heater

1500W / 2000W · IPX5 weatherproof · SnapFIT™ mount

This is the accessory that changes how often you actually use the space. The Pergolux infrared heater clips directly into the gutter rail — no drilling through the frame, no cables running down the posts. It lives outside permanently, rated to IPX5, and makes a 10°C Melbourne evening feel entirely comfortable. Close the louvres, switch the heater on, and suddenly winter isn't a reason to go inside.

Installed price guide: $800 – $1,500

Framed sliding glass · Floor-to-frame height · Slide open or closed

The final step from pergola to outdoor room. Pergolux motorised privacy screen Melbourne

Privacy Screen

Motorised zip screen · UV & wind protection · anthracite or white

The PERGOLUX Screen adds privacy and wind protection to the sides of your pergola without blocking light. The motorised zip-guided screen rolls down in seconds — shielding against wind, reducing glare, and creating a private outdoor room. Integrates with the S4 frame via SnapFIT™ channel mounts, no drilling required.

Installed price guide: $1,200 – $2,200

Pergolux Everglow solar outdoor light Melbourne

What Separates a Great Installation from a Disappointing One

A Pergolux system is an engineered aluminium product — the quality of the unit itself is consistent regardless of who installs it. What varies is the installation. And on a $15,000–$30,000 outdoor structure, that difference matters.

Here's what we do differently — and what to ask any installer before you sign:

🏗️

Properly specified footings

A freestanding pergola needs concrete footings sized for Melbourne's reactive clay soils. Undersized footings shift seasonally — stressing the frame and affecting drainage alignment. We specify and assess footings for every site.

Concealed electrical wiring

On a motorised system, wiring should run through conduit concealed inside the posts — not surface-clipped along the outside. A clean electrical installation is the mark of an installer who cares about the finished result.

📏

Precision frame alignment

The drainage channels in Pergolux frames rely on precise slope alignment to carry water to the downpipes. If the frame is installed even slightly out of level, water pools rather than draining. We check and correct this during installation — every time.

🏅

Preferred installer — warranty protected

Pergolux maintains a trained preferred installer network in Victoria. Installing through a preferred installer protects your structural warranty and gives you access to genuine Pergolux parts and technical support.

Twin Pergolux louvred pergolas installed over Merbau deck with recessed spa — Jan Juc, VIC

"Adrian and the team did a fantastic job transforming our backyard in Jan Juc. They built a beautiful Merbau deck, created a recessed area for the spa and installed two pergolas with louvres that tie the whole space together."

— JanJuc, VIC · Merbau Deck & Dual Louvred Pergolas

Traditional Timber Pergolas — Built to Last

Not every space calls for a motorised louvred system. A classic timber pergola, built properly and finished to a high standard, is a beautiful and functional addition to any Melbourne backyard.

We build custom pergolas using LOSP-treated structural pine — 90×90 or 100×100 posts, fully framed in treated pine, painted, filled and caulked to a clean professional finish. Every structure follows the Elevated Build Standard™, which means the framing is specified properly, the posts are footed correctly, and the build is solid underfoot and overhead.

  • ✓ LOSP-treated pine posts — 90×90 or 100×100
  • ✓ Full LOSP-treated pine frame — painted, filled & caulked
  • ✓ Integrated with existing decking or new deck builds
  • ✓ Lighting rough-in available on request
  • ✓ Custom sizing and design to suit your space
  • ✓ Built to council compliance standards

System & Configuration

Which model, what size, freestanding or house-attached, single or multi-bay — each combination is a different scope of work.

Accessories & Electrical

Infrared heating, LED lighting, glass wall screens and electrical connection all vary based on your configuration and existing power access.

Louvred Pergola FAQ

Everything Melbourne homeowners ask before their consultation — answered honestly.

Every project is different, which is why we don't publish fixed pricing. The cost depends on the system you choose, the size and configuration, whether it's freestanding or attached to your home, your site conditions, and the accessories you add — heating, lighting, glass wall screens. We visit your site before quoting and provide a detailed, itemised quote based on your specific project. Book a free consultation and we'll give you a number you can rely on.

The Pergola 4 is manually adjusted — louvres turn via a hand crank (0–120°), no electricity required for the roof. The Pergola 4 Pro adds an electric motor: louvres open and close at the touch of a remote, wall switch or app, with built-in dimmable LED beam lighting and an optional rain sensor that closes them automatically. The Pergola 4 Pro Max is the flagship — same motorisation as the Pro, plus 50% wider louvres for panoramic sky views, LED lighting integrated into every blade, and the ability to span up to 6m without a centre post.

It depends on your specific property, zone, and the size and attachment method of the structure. Many residential pergolas fall within permitted development rights and don't require a permit. Others — particularly in heritage overlays or where the structure exceeds certain dimensions — do. We recommend checking with your local council before proceeding. We can guide you through what is typically required for your area during the consultation.

Yes — Pergolux systems can be installed freestanding or house-attached. House-attached installations require proper flashing and waterproofing at the connection point to prevent water ingress. We assess the wall, cladding type and attachment method for every house-attached job to ensure a watertight, structurally sound connection.

A standard Pergolux installation takes approximately 2–4 days, depending on size, site conditions, and accessories. This includes concrete footings (which require time to set), frame assembly, electrical connection for motorised systems, and fitting of any accessories. We provide a full timeline at the time of quoting.

Very little. The powder-coated aluminium frame doesn't rust, warp, or require painting. An occasional rinse of the drainage channels to clear leaf debris, a wipe-down of the frame, and an annual check of the motor mechanism covers it. There's no oiling, sealing, or board replacement — unlike timber structures.

Pergolux systems are available in seven standard preset sizes from 3×3m to 4×6m. For larger areas, multiple units are installed side by side to cover almost any footprint. We visit your site, measure the space, consider the position of the house, garden, and sightlines, and recommend the right configuration — at no charge during a free consultation.

We install across Melbourne's eastern and south-eastern suburbs — Balwyn, Camberwell, Hawthorn, Kew, Malvern, Toorak, Doncaster, Templestowe, Brighton, Bayside, and surrounding areas. We also take on projects further afield — we've built in Jan Juc, Warragul and Newport. Contact us to confirm availability in your suburb.
